Why KDPhi?

Just listen to what our new actives have to say!

"I remember the very day when my big, Fortuna Chu gave me my bid to alpha Kappa Delta Phi. I couldn't believe my eyes, I was excited, and I thought I was IN alpha Kappa Delta Phi that afternoon. Little did I know I was far from being in. Spending most of my time with my pledge sister, I've gotten to know what it feels like to have sisters, real sisters. I've gotten to know them inside and out. I accept their flaws and they accept mine. I love them for who they are. Yes, they've been there for me through my weakest moments, and they're the ones that picked me up from the ground. All the times that I felt so vulnerable and so alone, they were the ones that understood me the most. They knew exactly what I was going through; we shared the same emotions. There were times when I turned my back against the world, and they were the ones that made me turn around to face the world. I didn't want to face many things that I thought were difficult. I didn't say how I felt about certain things. I kept many things inside, but Ngoc and Diane made me speak, as if they poke a hole through my thoughts. Many times before I thought we didn't have "sisterhood", however in the end, I understood the fact that "sisterhood" is not something that is gained instantaneously. It is something one must work hard for, just like anything else that's worth it. Sisterhood is something that blooms, and you must wait for that bloom. "Good things come to those who wait." Our iris may have bloom late, but it bloom beautifully. About two months ago, those two girls were nothing to me. Now.. the very same two girls share an indescribable bond with me that will last for a lifetime. If I’ve never accept that bid, I would have still been a plain Jane, and a girl with no sparkle to her jewelry. This whole experience has changed me somewa. Somehow, others probably can’t see it now, but I feel as if I am a much stronger, smarter, and more confident woman. I am an aKDPhi."

"I made a drastic change from high school to college. All of my friends departed to different schools and I was left all alone attending the University of Houston. I didn't know how I was going to adapt to college without my friends that I normally hang with or what I was going to expect. I'm not the very social type and I wanted to make my college experience something to remember by and that's when the option of attending the alpha Kappa Delta Phi info session came about. The info session and everything about aKDPhi gave me a better outlook of everything. aKDPhi has, not only open up many opportunities for me, but created a world of friendship that will last me a lifetime. It has also involved me in more projects in my community than I would have probably never done. aKDPhi has showed me what sisterhood is really about and what opening myself up for could really do. I walked onto the grounds of UH not knowing what to expect, afraid to feel accepted, and not determined enough to meet new faces, but joining aKDPhi has changed me completely into feeling more comfortable about myself and seeing that everyone can accept me for who I am. I thank aKDPhi with all my heart, and I thank everyone that I have met through this process for allowing me to create memories that I will never forget."

Ngoc Nguyen, Chi Class

"I chose alpha Kappa Delta Phi because I saw a set of strong women, and a strong sisterhood that I admired and wanted to be a part of. The girls have always been amazing, caring, independent, devoted, and full of character. It's those girls who I now can call my sisters, never could I ask for better sisters. Through the experience of pledging I've gained perspective, a better me, and eternal sisterhood. Pledging is an opportunity in itself, something you can't get anywhere else, and something you just can't explain. It isn't only for my college career, but the friendship I've gained, will last a lifetime. Those memories created with these sisters will always be there and will always be growing. alpha Kappa Delta Phi has become a part of me, and I LOVE IT. And in return, I'm grateful to be a part of them."

Reasons to Rush aKDPhi

Here are our reasons to rush aKDPhi!

  1. To enhance networking opportunities. With 43 chapters and more than 1,000 sisters nationwide, there are thousands of networking opportunities across the nation! You can find, meet, and get to know sisters from all over the nation, all with differing backgrounds, histories, and personal experiences! At our yearly National Convention, you get the opportunity to meet more than a thousand girls, all united under the same four letters.
  2. To apply and develop leadership skills. Being in the sorority lets you participate in many leadership activities, whether it be holding a position on the executive board or within in the Greek community. You have the opportunity to experience leadership at its best! The UH aKDPhi chapter participates in a variety of leadership events both on and off campus through hosting our own events such as Breast Fest for Breast Cancer Awareness and E.R.A.S.E. for domestic violence and abuse against women. We also show our leadership as active participants and MC's for the Asian American Festival here in Houston.
  3. To become more culturally aware. Because Asian awareness is one of the pillars supporting aKDPhi, we work hard to educate others about the Asian culture. While we are an Asian-interest sorority, we are NOT Asian American exclusive! We have many sisters who are not Asian and we accept all girls who want to rush for our sorority! One of our pillars is to help the community understand the Asian culture and to help them embrace it. We do this through many Asian awareness events such as movie nights, fashion shows, Asian American Festival at Hermann Park, and cultural dances and events. Furthermore, we attend events exhibiting all types of Asian cultures from Vietnamese to Chinese to Filipino to Korean and Thai. We do not discriminate!
  4. To participate in community service. The sisters of aKDPhi are always active participants and volunteers at various events within the University and within the community. We can always be found at the Making Strides race as well as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. You can find us Christmas caroling to the kids at the Texas Children's Hospital and you will find us hosting our very own Breast Fest in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Furthermore, we participate in various community events such as holiday festivals and Asian interest group events.
  5. To allow for personal growth in dealing with a diverse group of women. aKDPhi surrounds you with a myriad of personalities, histories, and backgrounds. This great diversity allows you to learn from other women you might have never met! With four diverse chapters in our region, there are countless of opportunities to meet and get to know sisters within our own region. All of them come from different backgrounds and different schools and we are constantly seen throwing regional events together and participating in regional sisterhoods.
  6. To make the most of your college career through new experiences you can’t receive anywhere else. Being in a sorority and the sorority itself offers you an experience that you can only have if you become a sister. The memories, experiences, and moments are something you carry with you your entire life. It is something that you learn through pledging and come to understand when you become a sister. And lastly?#060;/li>

  7. To create friendships through sisterhood that will last a lifetime!
